I believe that all religions have made mistakes. Taking responsibility would be a start.
The thought of DF because someone disagrees is still foreign. As a witness you can not disagree.

The WTS has never admitted, "We made a mistake". If you disagree with your teacher, so what. If you contradict a WT concept before the new light, you lose Everything, family , friends ect.
It is OK to change, that is not the problem, claiming you are God's only channel, well that is something different.

From the inside, this was nothing major. ....this was for my protection. From the outside, this is serious cult-like behavior.
What a difference a day (as in age, generation or a thousand years) makes.

Watchtower Publisher Records and Social Security Numbers
by YoursChelbie inaround the early 1990's an announcement was made just after the "ministry school" that the society was requesting personal information of all baptised publishers in the kh i was attending.. the attendands passed out blank "service reports" and we were told to write on the back our full name, date of birth and social security number.
i was very uncomfortable about the intrusive nature of their request.
being newly baptised, of course, i did as they asked.

Does Knowing the Truth Make you a Happier person?
by gumby inmany of us who were once jehovah's witnesses had a measure of happiness in our lives.
for me, i had a hope in the future, i had answers as to why we are all here, i believed in a loving god who looked after me and cared about me, i had answers to all of lifes big questions.. when i found out the truth about the witnesses, i was lost in a great big world and now had no answers other than the fact that what i once believed was "the truth" in actuality wasn't the truth.i now had to start all over in my search for truth.
for me, it wasn't long before i found what i thought was the truth since i always believed in the bible.

I sincerely feel not many people believe EVERYTHING their church teaches. It is OK. Only as a witness, you are forced to or be DF as an apostate.

How about you personally......are you a happier person?
I'm not one who can go back to believing a lie just to have answers although many have and they can pretend. I did however go back for the sake of my family because life for me was too awful without them and I couldn't cope. I now have my family back but the difference now is.....I have no hope for me and my family and so this question now hits me in the face each and everyday........am I a happier person in knowing the truth?
I have learned that many people DO not believe everything that their church teaches. They still go regularly, but do not face excommunication. Knowing God has made me a happy person and accepting his promises. Will I live in heaven?....earth?.....I do not know. I am free from the slavery of the WT and Yes, I do play the FS game. I turn in time every month. I have not gone out in years. The elders do not care unless their supervisor (CO) says you are inactive.
I love my family a great deal, most know I do not believe any of this. I have found that MOST of the witnesses that I know, elders and all, DO NOT believe this crap. They just enjoy the parties every other weekend that witnesses give. As one elder said, he is waiting for new light, "Because the current system is NOT believable to an intelligent person". Wow, from a 20 + year elder on every circuit assembly.

"This Generation Will Not Pass Away"
by TooBad TooSad inthe well written post yesterday by onthewayout got me thinking about the doctrine on "this generation".
wts doctrine was in their top 7 doctrines right behind: 1) only 144,000 go to heaven, 2) the earth will be turned into a paradise,.
3) god is not a trinity, 4) not to take blood, 5) hell is not hot, 6) be no part of the world, 7) this generation will not pass away until of.

This was the turning point for me. I was the same way. This is a MAJOR change in everything, Am I the only one to see it. I spoke with several elders, " Hey, the empreror does not have on any clothes on and it is cold in the room" No one made a big deal about it. I was very disturbed for years. I now see that most JWs do NOT think, therefore changes, really are not changes, this is how we have always believed. The logic does not make sense unless you place 20 or more hours in FS every month.
It is truly sad that so many people are drinking the Kool-Aid and enjoy it.

Question for faders (past and present)
by IsaacJS2 ini was just wondering why people fade instead of just quitting right away.
going inactive isn't enough to get dfed, is it?
i was never dfed, though my meeting attendance had been on again off again for months before hand.

If you invested in an account for 30 years, would you just walk away?
My friends and family are mainly in the org., I have a great deal invested. I also want my children to grow up in the org and enjoy the benefits as I did. I learned from worldly friends that they do NOT agree with everything their church teaches. They weed through the BS and enjoy their form of godly devotion. I try to do the same. I enjoy my PERSONAL relationship with God, not via the channel anymore.
My wife is also active. She possibly would lose her tea parties with her superficial, pompous friends if I left right away.

Those raised as JWs-Do you recall the path of doubts that led you to leave?

so i began to research ... and here i am.

Great Topic.
I remember reading a sign from an evil, satan-inspired apostate as a child at the Dodger Stadium convention. It was regarding 1975. It referenced the 1968 WT. I went to the KH library as an adult and read how they painted a picture that the end was sooooo close.
My Grandfather was born in 1906, GM in 1912. When they died in 1989, I started wondering about the generation doctrine. In 1995, the article was the last straw.
My children wanted to celebrate birthdays and I found that Job's children did, along with the angels at Jesus' birth.
What religion does not want it's people to go to college?......and seeing firsthand that bethel was a slave labor camp for the brain-dead.
These were the breaking points for me.
